Community dance class resumes at Champion Legacy Dance Academy

SIOUX FALLS, SD (Dakota News Now) – Champion Legacy Dance Academy is gearing up for a busy night.

New dancers, young and old, will flock to the studio for the free community dance class.

“We have a lot of young people with teenagers, but we had a few people in their late 50s and early 60s who came here and got done for a night and it was amazing to see them come and let loose. .and smile,” said instructor Jordan Boyd.

Jordan Boyd is one of the instructors for Monday’s class as he will be teaching the hip-hop portion of the evening.

Boyd hopes people of all skill levels will join in the fun.

“This is a judgment free zone. It’s not about coming here and trying to be the best dancer and trying to kill it the first time. Not at all, just come here and we’ll all go high fives and hugs at the end of the night anyway,” Boyd said.

Kevin Lechane started community dance classes at the studio several years ago.

Lechane says he’s thrilled classes are finally resuming since COVID stopped them over 2 years ago

“You guys just started making these good relationships and good friends, I started hanging out with people who come to these classes, it’s not something you can expect but it’s a blessing,” said Lechane.

Lechane says seeing people’s reactions to learning a new dance is what makes it worth it.

“When you’re teaching a student or another dancer and you see that look in their eyes or that feeling they get, it’s an amazing feeling that you’re helping something that they’ve been striving for and what they’ve been working for. worked very hard,” Lechane said.

The free community dance class will be held Monday from 8-9:30 p.m. at the Champion Legacy Dance Academy at 3320 S. Bedford Avenue.
