Meriden’s Star Dance Academy announces move at annual recital

MERIDEN — About 150 performers and 700 guests attended the annual Star Dance Academy recital at Lincoln Middle School on Sunday.

The recital included dozens of sets mixing dance styles, including hip hop and ballet.

Star Dance Academy founder Chantel Martin said the two shows staff and students put on on Sunday are the highlight of the year for the dance studio. Rather than competing in numerous shows and competitions throughout the year, the academy focuses on recital – although it does have teams that compete throughout the year.

The recital included dancers from 2 years old to adults.

“We are so lucky that our dancers learn to love dance…I get to share my passion for dance with all of them and once again they shine on stage,” Martin said. “It’s the most rewarding feeling.”

During the event, Martin announced that the academy would be moving to a larger location at 200 Research Parkway. It is currently located on Pomeroy Avenue.

“We know we need more space and moving will also give us more students, I would say, because it will attract more dancers,” Martin said. “There are so many possibilities with this new space because it’s so big. We are so excited…”
