NEW BRITAIN – The Garage Dance Studio is hosting the second annual Nutmeg Dance Festival July 29-31.
Muna Swairjo, a dance teacher and owner of the studio, said the festival offers dance lessons taught by professionals.
“We’re going to be offering the traditional dances, which are oldies, bustle, west coast swing, salsa and ballroom,” Swairjo said. “It will be instructed by professionals and world champions. Guests come out of state to teach in addition to some local teachers as well.
Some dance professionals include Robert Cordoba, a dance champion and trainer, Donna DeSimone, a competitor with professional titles in “Hustle” and “American & International Ballroom”, and Wendy Nielsen, the studio’s highly certified dance instructor. . The festival is located at 1385 East St.
According to Swairjo, the New Britain community has responded positively to the Nutmeg Dance Festival.
“With anything new, it’s usually slow, but now we have higher interest not just from the state but also from neighboring states,” Swairjo said.
Participants will learn new dances and improve their skills, Swairjo said.
“It’s a great social connection and a safe and healthy environment for people to share their love of dance and grow in it,” she said. “Dancing is a luxury.
Swairjo said many people take dancing seriously and attending the festival is essential for a “good and wholesome social event”.
