Opening of a new social dance club in Shepparton

Join the fun: Gail Cook will be giving dance lessons at Shepparton’s new social sequence dance club.

In the wake of social distancing, a new dance group is set to hit the stage in Shepparton.

Shepparton Social Sequence Dancing is the new club, which emphasizes socializing.

Dance instruction will be provided by Gail Cook, who is well known in the regional dance community and specializes in social sequence dancing.

“There seems to be a resurgence of interest in social sequence dancing and many locals flock to see popular local dances held at various venues across the Goulburn and Murray Valley and wider North East Victoria” , said Ms. Cook.

“Greater Shepparton has always lacked popular dance halls, and residents have generally had to travel outside of Shepparton to participate in social dances.”

But Ms Cook said that was all about to change now that the new social dancing club was coming to Shepparton.

The emphasis will be on sequence dancing, but there will be opportunities for line dancing, rock and roll, jive and swing dancing.

“New and old fashioned dances are great fun, easy to learn, and provide great opportunities to socialize, meet people, and stay in shape while listening and dancing to popular music and s ‘fun,’ Ms Cook said.

The dance club also plans to invite professional guest instructors and choreographers to teach and demonstrate new dances.

The dance group will meet weekly at Senior Citizens Hall in Welsford St, Shepparton.

There will be two sessions each Wednesday starting June 8 – 1-5 p.m. and 7-10 p.m.

“We encourage anyone interested in social dancing to attend, especially if you want to learn and participate in partner dancing and have an enjoyable social experience,” Ms Cook said.

“It’s all about having fun and having a good time dancing, so come bring your happy face and your dancing shoes.”
