Silhouette Dance Club Wins 34 Trophies in National Dance Blast Competition

A GROUP of young dancers made history last weekend after winning the most trophies ever in a competition.

On Sunday June 26, dancers from the Silhouette Dance Club competed against girls from across the country in the national Dance Blast competition in Lytham St Annes.

The St Helens-based dancers, aged 7 to 15, took part in a choreographed group routine and a solo freestyle routine in both Street Dancing and Cheer.

With prizes to be won for the top six places in each age category, the girls returned home with their “beaming faces” after winning a total of 34 trophies across all categories.

After the School of Dance opened on George Street in the city center in 1983, the weekend’s trophy tally made Dance Blast the most successful competition in Silhoutte’s nearly 40-year history.

Owner of Silhouette Dance Club, Marie Smith

Silhouette owner Marie Smith said: “I’m very proud of all the girl’s accomplishments after all the hard work she put into her dancing.

“It is impossible that all this success has happened without the hard work of the dancers, our dance teachers and the support of the parents of the children who come up to three times a week and participate in national competitions.

“Having been open since 1983, it’s pretty humbling to see the moms I’ve taught come now with their daughters and see them win these trophies.”

As well as Street Dancing and Cheer, Silhouttee Dance Club, now located on Boundary Road, also offers ballroom, contemporary, ballet, modern and tap dance classes.
