The dance academy opens its new studio in Rubery

A NEW dance academy has opened in Rubéry, transforming an abandoned factory site into a huge studio for young people.

Lauren McGeowen established Dance Box Academy in 2019 after a few years of teaching experience at another academy.

Previously, Dance Box was located in various community centers in Alvechurch, Rubery and Barnt Green, but in June Lauren secured the lease of 51 The Avenue and created a super hub for all her bands.

At 20, Lauren has years of experience, starting her career as a dance teacher at the age of 14.

“I started at the age of 14 to help a teacher, then I became a teacher at the age of 16. After a while, I thought to myself that I could take charge of my academy of dance if I was teaching on my own anyway,” Lauren said.

“Before opening the new studio, we held evening classes throughout the week, but now we have 41 sessions.

“We gained a lot of customers through Facebook and recommendations.

“Before moving into the premises we had about 150 children on the books, now we have 240.”

The academy caters for people aged three to 17, but also offers courses for toddlers and parents.

Lauren added: “I want to make it into a nursery next year as I have nursery experience as well.

“As a dance academy, we have already established a good reputation in the region and I look forward to spreading our name further!”
