TYLER, Texas — The Tyler Junior College Academy of Dance will present Hans Christian Andersen’s classic fairy tale, “The Little Mermaid,” for people of all ages this weekend.
Show times include 7 p.m. Friday, 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Saturday, and 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. Sunday in the Wise Auditorium of the Rogers Palmer Performing Arts Center on TJC’s main campus.
Admission will range from $15-$40 depending on seating and tickets can be purchased at TJC.edu/LittleMermaid. A paid luncheon with the cast will take place Saturday noon with tickets at $25 per person.
“I’m so excited to bring this classic tale to life through dance!” said Shurrell Wiebe, Artistic Director. “Our dancers will be ‘swimming’ through the air in our new Rogers Palmer Center for the Performing Arts, so you won’t want to miss this spectacular presentation. This show is ideal for the whole family, so don’t hesitate to bring young children and grandparents!
Evelyn Robinson, alumnus of the TJC Academy of Dance, will be the guest performer. The Tyler native dances professionally in Atlanta Ballet’s main company, which is a rarity for a 19-year-old, according to TJC.
Her dance training began at TJC at age 7, and she began attending the University of North Carolina School of the Arts on a full scholarship at age 15.
The production will be performed by majors from the TJC Pre-Pro Program and the Dance Department.
